Product Description

The best time to prepare for an emergency is BEFORE the emergency is present! Along with food, clothing, personal items, water, shelter, and medicines Potassium Iodide should be part of every person’s emergency supplies. In the event of a radiation leak and emergency, Potassium Iodide, when taken correctly, will fill the thyroid gland with safe Iodine – not leaving room for radiated Iodine.

When diluted as instructed, Health and Wisdom’s Potassium Iodide USP makes a less than saturated Potassium Iodide solution. Using less than saturated Potassium Iodide (KI) solution provides more accurate dosages because there is more solution overall to be measured out per dose. For example, mixing and dissolving exactly 26 grams of Potassium Iodide USP into a one liter bottle of water produces 1000 ml of Potassium Iodide solution with a strength of 130 mg for each 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of that Potassium Iodide (KI) solution. There are 200 of those 5 ml servings in that 1000 ml (1 liter). Five ml can be easily and accurately measured out with a common graduated medicine dropper or one teaspoon.

Potassium Iodide FAQs

Potassium iodide delivers iodine, a key mineral in thyroid function and cellular metabolism.  When taken according to the directions, it will flood the thyroid, preventing the uptake of radioactive iodine.  This can support thyroid health following radiation exposure.

“USP” indicates that the potassium iodide meets the purity and quality standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia. This helps ensure consistency, safety, and absence of contaminants.

Prevents damage to the thyroid gland following risk of radiation exposure

  • This product is not intended to be used as a supplement but is sold as an item for your emergency supply kit.
  • When ready to use, dilute carefully with clean drinking water according to the directions provided. Adults may take 1 tsp. daily during potential for radiation exposure. Children are to take less.  Carefully follow directions.

  • Do not dilute with water until needed. The shelf life of dry potassium iodide is much greater than the product after it has been reconstituted in water.
  • Do not use in greater amounts than recommended in the literature included.  High amounts of potassium can cause dangerous or even fatal heart rhythms.

  • Iodide/iodine may cause allergic reactions or sensitization in some individuals.
  • Overuse or high doses can disrupt thyroid function or cause iodine toxicity.
  • If you have thyroid disease, kidney disease, or are pregnant/nursing, consult a medical professional before use.
  • Discontinue use if unusual symptoms (rash, swelling, abnormal heart rate, nausea, etc.) occur.
  • Keep out of reach of children—contact poison control immediately with suspected overdose.

Pure potassium iodide (USP), without fillers or additives.

This product is not intended to be taken as a supplement.  In the event of nuclear radiation exposure, follow directions carefully to mix with water. Take only recommended amount according to recommendations of Federal Emergency Management professional. Continue daily until risk of exposure is past.
